About the Programs

Adopted by the state of California, these comprehensive programs address the goals, context, and themes of the California Framework for ELA and ELD instruction, including Integrated and Designated ELD.

Benchmark Advance and Adelante’s rigorous, integrated reading, writing, speaking, and listening instruction meets the needs of districts implementing a reading collaborative, balanced approach, or workshop model, and enables all students to master rigorous learning goals with the support of strong differentiated instruction and responsive teaching based upon ongoing assessments.

Benchmark Advance and Benchmark Adelante were built specifically to meet California's unique challenges. They provide the resources you need to meet the key instructional shifts in tandem with California's ELA/ELD instructional framework, ensuring you can meet its five themes:

Impressive Gains in Reading Achievement

During the 2015–16 school year, the Chula Vista, CA Elementary School District took part in an independent research study using Benchmark Advance and Benchmark Adelante comprehensive English and Spanish literacy programs with long-term onsite Professional Development. After just one year using these programs, the district saw impressive gains across all student achievement and very impressive gains by English Learners and students classified as Low SES.

Ready to Advance

Ready to Advance is a brand new comprehensive Transitional Kindergarten program built specifically to address the unique needs of students in California. The lessons and strategies center around the nine learning domains in the California Learning Foundations, including social-emotional, language and literacy, math, and English Language Development. Additionally, the program addresses the critical foundational skills called for by the Kindergarten California Common Core State Standards.
The program:

  • Closes crucial early achievement gaps
  • Prepares students for success in school

Steps to Advance

Introducing Steps to Advance, an intervention solution designed to work seamlessly with Benchmark Advance. This new program aligns to the text, unit topics, and scope and sequence in Benchmark Advance, making it easy to integrate into your curriculum.

  • Special education teachers
  • Title teachers
  • Classroom teachers with struggling readers

Available in print and online, Steps to Advance provides proper opportunities to scaffold students as they stretch to reach grade-level expectations by providing gradual steps that advance students’ access to complex texts. Students develop grade-level skills with meaningful practice.

There is a program guide to support you as you implement the program, as well as assessment to monitor student progress and inform instruction, and a Teacher’s Guide with full lesson plans and integrated ELD support.
